Why we exist
You can know better and still find it incredibly difficult to do differently.
You can know you need boundaries and still feel guilty setting them.
Know you need to rest and still feel uncomfortable doing nothing.
Know you aren't responsible for everybody and still feel the urge to step in when something goes wrong.
Know you need support and still hear yourself saying:
"Nah, it's fine. I'll sort it."
Information isn't always the missing piece.
Sometimes we need to understand why the old response feels so automatic in the first place.
Issa Safe Space exists to help Firstborn Daughters explore the roles, experiences and expectations that have shaped the way they show up today.
Not so we can spend forever looking backwards.
But so we can understand ourselves better in the present — and have more choice about what happens next.
Our approach
Understand. Then choose.
We believe meaningful personal development begins with understanding.
Noticing what happens.
Getting curious about where it came from.
Recognising what it might be costing you now.
And then deciding what you want to do with that information.
Notice
What's happening?
The automatic yes.
The guilt.
The tension.
The urge to fix.
The overthinking.
The moment you find yourself taking responsibility before you've even decided whether it's yours.
Understand
What's underneath it?
Where might this response have come from?
What shaped it?
What did you learn about responsibility, strength, success, belonging or being a "good daughter"?
And does that still serve you today?
Choose
What do you want to do now?
Maybe you still say yes.
Maybe this time you say no.
Maybe you help.
Maybe you recognise that this one isn't yours to fix.
The aim isn't to tell you what the "right" response is.
It's to create enough awareness that your response becomes a choice rather than an automatic reaction.
Practise
Because knowing isn't the same as doing.
Change often happens in surprisingly small moments.
The pause before answering.
The first uncomfortable no.
Asking for help instead of automatically doing it yourself.
Resting before everything is finished.
Catching the old response just a little sooner than you did last time.
You don't have to transform overnight.
You practise something different until different starts to feel possible.
What we stand for
The principles behind everything we create.
Integrity
We do what we say, and we mean what we do.
Care, honesty and responsibility shape the conversations we create, the information we share and the spaces we hold.
Trust matters here.
Understanding
We get curious.
We make space to understand where something came from, what shaped it and whether it still serves us today.
Understanding gives us context.
And context gives us more choice about what happens next.
Progression
We're interested in what moves you forward. Not perfection.
Progress can be quiet.
Noticing sooner.
Pausing before reacting.
Having the conversation.
Asking for help.
Making one choice the previous version of you wouldn't have made.
Small shifts count.
Especially when they're repeated.
Community
There is power in being understood.
Sometimes one of the most powerful moments is hearing another Firstborn Daughter describe something you've experienced your whole life and thinking:
"Wait...you too?"
ISS creates spaces for conversation, reflection, learning and connection — because personal development doesn't always have to happen alone.
